Phase 1's Setup for Phase 2
October 3, 2024— arcane_cried_ngl
Phase 1 establishes the core conflicts, character arcs, and mysterious threats that directly lead into Phase 2's storyline.
Phase 1 basically sets up everything Phase 2 needs to happen, ngl. The whole season is about establishing who these characters are and what theyre capable of before things get way worse.
Mark Heffley is the big one here. He's introduced early as just "the Crazy Father," but by the end of Phase 1 we learn he's actually the mastermind behind everything. He invented the StarGazer and was willing to sacrifice his own daughter (Kasey) for clout. That obsession with recognition and his tech doesnt just disappear after Phase 1 ends—its clearly gonna be a problem in Phase 2.
Matthew's death is huge for setting up Phase 2 emotionally. He dies saving Montreal, and that's not something the story just moves past. It leaves Pat and Sarah grieving and kinda broken, which changes how they'll approach whatever comes next. They're not the same trio anymore.
Kasey gets trapped in the Theaneb dimension at the end of Phase 1, but shes obsessed with the pocketwatch and conquest. That obsession isnt resolved. Meanwhile, Valentina and Velma are doing their thing protecting the world, but they clearly dont know the full scope of what Mark's capable of.
The Interdimensional Being's final warning in Ep4 is the biggest setup tho. It basically tells us Phase 2 is gonna be on a whole different scale. Phase 1 was about stopping a local threat. Phase 2 is gonna be about what comes after.
Basically: Phase 1 breaks these characters, reveals the real villain, and promises worse things are coming. Thats literally the foundation for everything Phase 2 does.
