Pat - The Accidental Hero

Pat's complete cluelessness and confusion accidentally drive the entire plot of Clover Chaos, making him an unconventional protagonist who stumbles into saving Montreal.
Pat is honestly the worst hero ever and thats kinda the point lol. Like, he's not brave or smart or even particularly willing to help. He just... fumbles around with his magical pocketwatch and keeps accidentally making things worse, which somehow leads to solving the actual problem? Its wild.
Throughout Phase 1, Pat gets dragged into situations by Sarah and Matthew way more than he chooses to be a hero. He doesnt understand the Interdimensional Being, doesn't grasp Mark's plan, and definitely doesnt realize how deep things get. But because he keeps messing around with the pocketwatch out of pure confusion, he ends up doing exactly what needs to be done without meaning to.
The thing that makes Pat work as a protagonist is that he's NOT the one who actually saves Montreal. Sarah, Matthew, and Pat together save the city — and Matthew literally dies for it. Pat's just the accidental catalyst. He's the reason things happen, but he's not brave enough or smart enough to deserve credit. Ngl, thats a way better story than 'chosen one saves the day' because it feels real.
By the end of Phase 1, Pat still barely understands anything. The Interdimensional Being's warning goes right over his head. He's just standing there confused while everyone else realizes how bad things are about to get. And that's exactly why his character works so well. He's us — clueless and in way over our heads.
