Montreal (Character)

Montreal itself functions as a character in Clover Chaos, a living setting that gets threatened, saved, and fundamentally changed across Phase 1.
Montreal is way more than just a backdrop in Clover Chaos — it's honestly a character itself. The show uses the city as this living, breathing entity that the trio has to protect.
During Phase 1, Montreal gets absolutely wrecked. The "Crazy Father" (Mark Heffley) and his StarGazer invention start tearing reality apart, which creates this massive tear and lets the Interdimensional Being slip through. The city's kinda falling apart around Pat, Sarah, and Matthew the whole time, and it really drives home what theyre fighting for — it's not abstract, it's HOME.
What makes Montreal work as a character is that it gets saved by the three of them together, not by one hero. That matters. The city needs all three friends, and Matthew literally gives his life to save it. His sacrifice hits different bc Montreal is so specific and real feeling — it's not some generic fantasy world.
Ngl, Phase 1 ends with Montreal saved but fundamentally changed. The Interdimensional Being's final warning sets everything up for Phase 2, so the city isn't out of danger. Montreal's victory is bittersweet. It survives, but at a cost, and things are gonna get worse before they get better. The show never lets you forget that.
Tbh Montreal being treated like a proper character instead of just a location is one of Clover Chaos's coolest storytelling choices.
